Children's science camps of the Center for the Promotion of Science are multi-day scientific research programs that offer young people the opportunity to develop their scientific projects in the company of peers with similar interests, through cooperation with adults who are experts in various fields. This year, in Novi Sad, with students from various high schools, we are investigating the future of the climate and the impact of climate change on life on planet Earth. At this camp, the future has arrived, and in it, young people, like real engineering teams, work to devise solutions, test their prototypes and improve the design of machines that make everyday life easier for the population of planet Earth. Work at the camp is conceived in the spirit of maker culture, mastery and use of sustainable materials through connecting different disciplines that are important for understanding climate change. The final works of the teams will become an integral part of the exhibition within the seventh edition of the art+science 2022 event.

Joana Moll’s browser-based installation confronts us with the environmental footprint of buying a book on amazon.com. It sheds light on Amazon’s often unacknowledged but aggressive exploitation of their users, which is embedded in the core of the so-called internet companies’ business strategies.

In nature, clams are detectors of pollutants; they serve as tiny filtration systems. Clams is a collection of kinetic sound sculptures which convert data from water quality sensors into sounds and movement. Each ‘clam’ is constructed from recycled waste plastic and contains a speaker. The continuously evolving microtonal soundscape gives each shell a subtle, life-like opening and closing action. Real-time readings from an industry-standard water purity sensor placed in the river, lake or sea of the cities where the artwork is presented, form the basis for the music, which is generated through a constantly shifting process based on water quality levels over time.

»Meandering River« is an audiovisual installation comprised of real-time visuals generated by an algorithm and music composed by an A.I. This digital artwork makes change perceivable by creating a unique awareness of time. Spanning over multiple screens, the piece reinterprets the shifting behaviors of rivers by visualizing and sonifying their impact on the surface of the earth.

It all started with a first flush, or some would say, before the actual flush. A small miscellaneous moment and lack of attention. And so the Fatberg was born from the depths of human ignorance in the depth of the sewer pipe.

Woodiana.today is an experimental online forecast service developed to save the Danube's future through speculative fabulation. It is run by Woodiana, a freshwater mussel of the species Sinanodonta woodiana (I. Lea, 1834), that was introduced from China, and today she is facilitated by her international team of artists and scientists.

From the very beginning of the a+s+cpn selection, the goal was to think about, practicaly adopt and constantly test the modalities of collaborative work that connects science and art, and on the basis of which art+science works are created. Initiating and establishing true cooperation between actors from the artistic, scientific and technological spheres requires openness, commitment and a research spirit. In this process, questions are asked and answers are sought using the perspectives and knowledge of all parties involved. The a+s+cpn selection is a highly dynamic process within the Center's art+science program, based on a network of diverse collaborators, through which creators of younger generations are encouraged and gradually included.
