National selection

Since the inception of the art+science programme, the focal point of each exhibition has been reserved for the winning artworks of the national art+science selection. These works have been developed under the CPN’s guidance and produced with the support of European projects in which CPN participates. The starting point of the process are the applications of artists from Serbia submitted for global calls of given projects. From around 60 applications from Serbia have been submitted so far, 7 original concepts that have been selected and realised through this selection.

Artists’ and scientists’ direct collaboration represents a core of the process, through a tangible connection and integration of the worlds that are often seen as distant, even opposed. In previous years, the role of scientist has changed and adapted according to the circumstances and needs. In the very beginning, from 2015 to 2017, the role of science mentor was taken by Dr Dragana Ilić from the Department of Astronomy, Faculty of Mathematics, University of Belgrade. Since 2018, when the AI Lab project has started, the guiding notion has been to find researchers who would meet the complex, topically defined structure of a+s collaborations with their knowledge and expertise. So far, the participants in this unique constellation have been: dr Milica Janković, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Belgrade, dr Miloš Milovanović from the SASA Mathematical Institute, and this year, dr Jelena Slivka and dr Nikola Luburić from the Faculty of Technical Sciences, University of Novi Sad, simultaneously in charge of the Clean CaDET project, funded through the first AI dedicated call of the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia.
