Interactive sculptures

Resonant Memories shares the memories of elderly people from Serbia through interactive sculptures that bring their experiences—especially those involving technology—to life. The works go beyond visual representations, using tactile and sonic sensations to evoke emotional resonance. Vibrotactile feedback, textiles, and soundscapes abstractly connect to significant personal moments, while each sculpture invites visitors to feel and interpret the memory through embodied engagement. The project stems from a year-long collaboration with nearly 100 older adults across Belgrade, Dolovo, Pančevo, and Ruma, who actively co-created the tactile sensations, sounds, and aesthetic forms.

The goal of the Resonant Memories exhibition is to share the episodic memories of elderly people from Serbia through interactive sculptures that bring their experiences—especially those involving technology—to life. We invite you to reflect not only on these stories, but on your own, and to discover how some memories reverberate across generations. We also hope to bring awareness about different perspectives on technology by conveying memories of the elderly using technology in a more embodied, and less visual-centric way than current mainstream digital devices.

Yulia Sion is a researcher and creative technologist completing her PhD at Tallinn University. She explores haptics, wearables, and memory in art. For Resonant Memories, she co-designed vibrotactile sensations with elderly participants in Serbia.

Nuno N. Correia is a researcher and media artist based in Estonia. His work focuses on sound, multisensory experiences and embodied interaction. He is associate professor at Tallinn University, and has led several research projects in the intersection between art and technology.
